As we we move along we like to share with you how a project or area is going a few years out from the project's inception. Where possible, we will update this area with news as to how things are proceeding or problems incurred upon continuation. Omittance from this page does not reflect any success or failure: not all areas can be contacted and not all endeavours have ensuing stories.

Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH)

At the United Nations Biodiversity Conference a New Biodiversity Framework for 'living in harmony with nature'.

»»The was adopted for the benefit of people and planet was adopted thanks to the work of Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka. The newly agreed deal contains four global goals and 23 targets aiming to protect and restore nature for current and future generations, ensuring its sustainable use, and spurring investments for a green global economy.

Murchison Falls was recovering beyond all expectations and records.

Wildlife numbers were increasing at incredible rates »»" Murchison Falls was the most visited park. In 2019 the park broke its own visitor records. Revenue-sharing with communities had increased from a meager $50,000 pa to over $400,000 pa. Among the park-adjacent communities, attitudes towards wildlife conservation continue to change for the better."

We have expanded into three new departments in the Western Highlands! »»"In May, we hired a new team to staff a third full-time mobile unit based in Xela, Quetzaltenango and they were up and running on July 1 after two months of training in our Antigua clinic. I was with the team last week in the field and I have to tell you: they're amazing. I was so inspired to see how much they believe in the work we do and how committed they are to bringing culturally-sensitive reproductive health services to their communities."

Furthermore, 98% of the students secured First division and Distinction. Damini L from Commerce topped the class of 2019 with 93%, followed by Aishwarya N, who topped the Science with 91%. "

This year, all 11

students completed the course »»"4 of them secured the job to work in sewing shops, 3 are planning to apply for the jobs and others set up sewing businesses at home. A few graduate students didn't have the confidence to use their skill and we found that the students didn't have much time to practice their lessons, so next year, we are going to let our students practice the most popular lessons more in class and start a mentoring program to follow up their learning and to address their concerns. "

is broadcasting

the news that»»"The radio station has given Indigenous women a voice in educating their community on women's rights and VAWG, available support services for survivors and avenues for justice. Women have reported feeling less isolated and lonely from hearing similar stories of women and calling in to the radio to discuss instances of violence in their lives. By reaching both women and men, social norms and traditional ideas of masculinity have shifted and an environment is being fostered where both men and women understand women's rights, condemn VAWG and encourage survivors to pursue justice. Women also described experiencing greater freedom to leave the house and convene with other women. "

Spoons Cafe

which teaches hospitality students the arts of the restaurant industry.

We've heard that »» "You'll be delighted to know we have climbed to the Top 5 restaurants on TripAdvisor, out of 700 restaurants in Siem Reap, even hitting #1 a few weeks back. Our 45 students are also currently training alongside our Spoons team at every lunch and dinner service, which complements their concurrent F&B curriculum nicely. Spoons has certainly opened up plenty of opportunities for our organization, and we couldn't be more pleased when it makes a tangible positive difference to our students learning experience. "

ATC Solar Power

and the goal of Mayan Power and Light (MPL) is to start woman-owned for-profit solar businesses

Their progress has been»» "In 2013 ATC started MPL, to teach young Guatemalan Mayan women about electricity, circuits and solar power. Mayan Power and Light is recognized as one of the top 100 sustainable enterprises worldwide by Sustainia, who works in collaboration with the United Nations Global Compact Sustainability Program. We have provided solar power and light to 5,000 — 10,000 people in the western highlands of Guatemala. "

LEI's

champions clean water and better sanitation throughout Nepal.

Their onsite project co-ordinator told us»» "In 2013-14 Forix played an important role in furthering LEI's goal to build composting toilets and clean water in Nepal. 196 additional toilets and 5 water wells were constructed in the area. With the construction of approximately 250 more toilets, Rampurwa Village will be the first "open defecation free&qupt; village in Bara District. "

The Lunchbox Fund's

schools benefited from Forix's grant by being supplied with kitchen equipment to cook school lunches.

From their Managing Director we learned»» "LBF has gone from strength to strength over the past two years. We have grown to become an national organisation - serving nutritious school lunches to 16,000 children (up from 8,000 in 2014) in all of South Africa's nine provinces. They have grown too. Each of them has been able to qualify for government meal assistance, allowing us to redeploy our resources into Early Child Development Centres. Sustainability in action."

Adopt A Village Guatemala,

2010 where we sponsored a community garden, establishing not only a vegetable garden for food, but a source of income when the surplus was sold locally.

From their director we heard»» "...not only is the garden in use, but has been expanded.

Forix Foundation provided us with the ability to launch gardens in a total of seven villages to date, and we hope to reach more villages if we are successful with fundraising.

Furthermore, the initial gardening concept is moving toward saving open-pollinated seeds for yearly gardens. "

EGBOK, Siem Reap, 2013

where we helped underprivileged young adults to achieve their employment goals.

Their newsletter updated us»» "We are excited to share that over the past few months we have been working to re-vamp the Phase 1 Module of our program with the help of long-time EGBOK Volunteer, Sigrid Baldinger. Our new Introduction to Hospitality Course has been condensed to last 12 hours (typically over 3 days) plus a half-day field trip to Siem Reap. Previously these courses were 60 hours and often covered 3 months. These courses will now provide an intensive hospitality overview to help participants decide if they would like to apply to our full year Phase 2 training program. This change will allow EGBOK to reach a greater number of individuals in more remote areas of Cambodia. We are able to take the time and resources spent and spread it across a wider audience of deserving students."

where we helped a group of women become entrepreneurs .

We recently heard»»
"As a result of last year's program funded by Forix (June-Sept. 2014) we have enhanced our workshops for women this year. The students in our handcraft classes were so successful that we began a group business mentoring program for them. The women call themselves the Kustawi Ladies. (Kustawi means 'to thrive' in Swahili.) They will be their own independent organization by the end of 2015! As a result of this success, we are aiming to reach more women this year with direct business training because we have seen its immediate impact in their lives. We have created a 4 week business program that teaches these women how to start their own business or enhance the one they already have. Many women have small businesses that earn very little profit because they don't maintain financial records and don't know how to source their inventory properly. We want to teach them and help them earn a good living.
....I remain deeply inspired by these women who courageously overcome unfathomable hardships to ensure their children will have a better life than they do. It is a privilege for me to work along side them."
